Aunt Louise’s Sports Review
Season Opener: Cavs vs. Bos October 27, 2009
The following is my first game review. Ever.
Boy, that Marv Albert is a talker. I must have been watching the channel-for-the-blind, that man talked so much, like we couldn’t see for ourselves what was happening. Yikes, Marv, give it a rest; you didn’t need to keep reminding us the Cavs are “downtown"; even I knew they weren’t in Richfield anymore.
My main impression of the game: there are some very tall guys playing this game and I’m proud of each and every one of them, win or lose.
Actually I kind of missed who won or lost because I turned the sound off at the half (see Marv-yammering, above) and then I may have dozed a little, because all of the sudden Teddy-the-dog was watching Larry King (guest: the fascinating Hulk Hogan), our usual late night fare, and I couldn’t find the remote.
All the same, the tallest and best Cavs players were…drum roll…our very own LeBron James and the Shaq-o-nater. I’ll have a more in-depth analysis (with statistics!) in another review, after I actually watch a whole game.
Oh, and I checked the newspaper, the Cavs lost, but only by 6 points, a very small percentage, when you do the math. It’s almost nothing.
I’ll put this all in perspective in another review by comparing the Cavs loss to the Browns loss(es).
Your comments are always well received.

Hilarious, it's almost as if you've never watched a game!
ReplyDeleteYour analysis of the game is stellar! Please include a review of tonight's World Series game where both starting pitchers were recently teammates on the Indians. Hmm, wonder why the Indians don't keep the good ones.
ReplyDeleteYou know, sometimes I see the ball go through the basket and all of the players act accordingly, but it's nice to have Marv double check it, just to make sure it isn't an optical illusion. Also, I agree that 6 points is a very small differential relative to the total scores. We practically won!
ReplyDeleteAnd the Indians can't afford the good ones. I'm hoping it won't happen to LeBron. It's a shame that they put money before championships, but that's the way a business works.
I would love to hear a commentary on the Rocky Colavito trade and it's impact on Divisional-Era lower Great Lakes region culture.
ReplyDeleteMarv drives me nuts. Louise, if you want the ultimate sports experience, turn the sound off on the TV and turn on the radio broadcast. Joe Tait is the BEST. Works for Indians and Browns games, too.
ReplyDeleteI think Marv's non stop talking is due to his personal issues. If you think Marv is bad wait until you watch a game with Austin Carr. A few games with "Deep in the Q" and you will be doing reviews of the golf channel. I agree it is best to turn off the sound and listen to Joe Tait.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could leave the sound off and do reviews of the uniforms.
I'm really glad I read this blog as I hadn't realized basketball season had gotten under way. I absolutely hate being "out of the loop" on these kinds of things. True, I don't catch the sports news as regularly as I probably should and that's clearly a shortcoming on my part. That's why I'll monitor this blog from time to time. I'm sure it will make me a more interesting conversationalist among my sports-loving friends. The last thing I recall with certainty is that the Cleveland Indians were on their way to the World Series. Let me add my congratulations with a hearty "Go Tribe!" I think I also heard something involving the Browns. Is it really true that Jim Brown is returning to the team? I know he was really good some while ago, but I think it's been a while since he saw actual playing time on the field. "Time flies," as they say, but apparently more so for some than for others. In fact, I've been hearing about some guy named Far or Fahr (or something like that) who's apparently come out of retirement. People seem really excited about it and I'm sure he's getting quite a lot of money. I'm guessing he must have been a pretty fair player in his day. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure he comes from an athletic family. I'm almost positive I saw his older brother in a TV commerical somewhere not all that long ago. I think it was a bunch of old geezers in a backyard pickup game of tag football where the first guy to catch a pass won some Viagra or something.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's about it for now. Thanks to Louise for getting this blog going. It looks like yet another exciting season for Cleveland fans.

Comment: 2010 and Cavs, Indians and Browns are all in last place. Questions: What's the future of women's Hai Lai ? And please offer some insight into the next Smack Down contest. Your work is so good, but I think you have to expand your horizons.
